About Me

I always have a hard time with descriptions like these.  Who am I?  What do I do?  It is ever-changing.  I am a Mom today...of 4 beautiful children...2 of them are independent, wonderful and active teenagers.  We will be beginning the tenuous process of looking for a college over the next year while doing school work and playing hockey, lacrosse and hanging out with friends.   My other two children are from my second marriage and are almost 5 and 7.  They are learning to read and write, tell time...they are a joy!! I am also a wife to my husband Kevin. He helps will all my ambitions for home and will be credited many times throughout my makeovers. We are very busy!!  It is hard to think that I can do much of anything other than take care of this group but I love all things design.  I get lost in the design blogosphere for hours at a time and it feels as if only a few minutes have past.  Design is my hobby but I would love to turn it into something more.  This year I plan to make changes to my life...to myself and to my home and would love to share those transformations here.

Currently I have the side business Kate Eaton Design.  I work on projects of all sizes.  I have been showing off some of my favorite designs and showing some little projects on facebook.  We started our own home design eight years ago.  We gutted the house from top to bottom...all that was left were the studs...new electrical, new plumbing, new walls, new basement...the only thing original to the house is the banister of the staircase.  We never really finished it the first time around and now I am ready to make changes.  We are always on a pretty tight budget so my makeovers are almost always on a shoe string budget.  Last year we added a pretty large addition to our home...a two-car garage and a one bedroom apartment for my Mom.  We love having her close by and she has such great taste... I will be sharing her home here as well.  The outside of our home is in need of lots of help.  The addition now has new siding but our section of the house still has the original cedar siding(maybe this summer we can side it...yes please!!!  No more painting cedar!!!)  But seriously this house could keep us in repairs, upkeep and remodels for the next ten years and then we would need to start all over again.  But we love our house...we love it filled with friends and family and I am so excited to share it with people on my new blog!!!

This year's blog I will share the changes to my family, to my home and to myself.  I have been practicing yoga and meditation for about 5 years now and I would love to share a little from my practice.  I often feel like the changes to my home often reflect the changes that happen in me.  Foolishly, I sometimes feel as though I am all done...I have made great breakthroughs in my acceptance of myself and others but something wakes me up now and then and makes me realize I need repairs...I need the day to day up keep just like my house.  I am only as present as I am in this moment, not the last one...I hope you follow me as I explore design throughout my journey of life and family...
